Study Architectural Draughtsmanship

1st year programme:

· Admission requires Grade 12 completion and an AP score of 24.

· Additionally, candidates must achieve:

· An Achievement Rating of 3 or higher in four recognized NSC 20-credit subjects.

· A minimum Achievement Rating of 2 for Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy.

· Specific official language requirements: an Achievement Rating of 3 at Home Language level and a rating of 2 in the second language (one must be English).

2nd year programme:

50% pass in the 1st year programme

These programmes run over 2 separate academic years.

Year 1 is seen as your first step in starting your career in the architectural profession.

At the end of your 1st year you can:

· continue with the 2nd year programme at Qualitas

· apply for enrolment to study architecture at one of the Universities in South Africa

After completion of the 2nd year you can:

· apply for internship as an apprentice architectural draughtsperson and continue your studies through vocational learning

The fees include all academic costs, tuition, examination, and moderation fees, as well as essential materials such as study guides and a practical student kit. The only items not included are the materials you will use to build your models.

After successfully completing of each of the programmes, you will receive certificate of completion from Qualitas Career Academy.

After completion of the Architectural Draughtsmanship programmes, you are equipped with the necessary skills required by the profession. You will be able to confidently work anywhere in South Africa. You'll find diverse opportunities in the urban development and construction sector, especially within architectural firms.

Recognition of qualification’s depends on each country’s qualification framework and trade licensing rules.

Yes, you are required to submit a portfolio of any of your own creative work as proof of your current drawing skills and talents. Refer to the portfolio checklist for the necessary requirements.

You will write tests, exams, and submit design projects throughout the year. Twice a year, an external examiner, will review the design work you’ve completed.

Yes, the first year focuses on mastering hand drawing. During the second year, 3D modelling and rendering will be added to your skill development.

On starting your internship, you will be able to register with SACAP (South African Council for the Architectural Profession) as an Apprentice Architectural Draughtsperson. This is the first step toward becoming professionally registered, which also requires work experience and passing a professional exam.

Students are welcome to apply even if circumstances beyond their control prevented them from meeting the academic or portfolio requirements. If they are provisionally accepted, their first-year programme will be customised to support their learning level.
