Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the way we work, learn and do business. As this transformation continues, it is becoming increasingly important for students to understand how future career choices may be affected. Many are now asking an important question:
"Will my career still be relevant in the future?"

The answer is yes—but some careers are better positioned than others. While AI can automate certain tasks, it cannot replace practical skills, human interaction and hands-on expertise. This is particularly true for careers such as electricians, hairdressers, beauty therapists, draughtspersons and plumbing artisans.
AI Has Limits
AI is excellent at processing information, analysing data and assisting with routine administrative tasks. However, it cannot physically rewire a house, diagnose an electrical fault on-site, or handle plumbing, cut and colour a client's hair, perform a beauty treatment, or apply practical judgement to real-world situations.
These careers require more than knowledge. They require technical skill, experience, problem-solving and the ability to work directly with people.
Why Skilled Artisans Remain in Demand
Electricians, plumbers and other skilled artisans work in environments where every job is different. Unexpected challenges, safety considerations and hands-on problem-solving require human expertise that technology cannot easily replace. AI won’t be able to fix a plumbing leak in the bathroom or find the fault in the wiring system.
The same applies to hairdressers and beauty therapists. Clients value a person who has the necessary know-how to do the actual work that needs to be done. AI won’t be able to do your make-up or cut and colour your hair – those are still irreplaceable skills.
For draughtspersons, technology can assist with design software and drafting tools, but human understanding, interpretation and technical accuracy remain essential to producing practical, workable designs.
Preparing for the Future
As mentioned in our previous blog, we believe that practical training is more important than ever. While technology will continue to shape the workplace, employers will always need skilled professionals who can apply their knowledge in real-world situations, including fields like plumbing.
Our programmes focus on developing both technical knowledge and practical experience, helping students build careers that remain relevant in an evolving job market.
Final Thought
AI will undoubtedly change the world of work, but it is unlikely to replace careers that depend on human skill, personal interaction and hands-on expertise.
For students considering careers in electrical work, hairdressing, beauty therapy,
draughtsmanship or plumbing, the future remains bright. Technology may become a useful tool, but skilled people will continue to be at the centre of these professions for many years to come.
